Gauteng

Formerly part of the old Transvaal, since 1994, Gauteng is the smallest province in South Africa and includes Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Fort Klapperkop

It was one of the first military-type places I ever visited. I was 18 or 19 (1948-49) and at last I had a motorcycle that would go that far from Johannesburg… a Royal Enfield 125cc, 2-stroke. I expected a “Beau Geste” fort, so was rather disappointed. It is now a museum.

Meyerton, South of Johannesburg

Pretoria

Video taken in 2000. This old fort has many guns on display. The panels show the names of men from more modern actions.
